Chapter 1065: Distance

Only by fully understanding the level of strength of both sides could Lin Li find an optimal entry point in that fierce battle, and truly manage to turn the entire battle around to get themselves out of a disadvantageous position.

Besides, another important reason was that when Lin Li had established the Tower of Dusk, he could already vaguely sense a familiar aura from Cage Island, which made him feel extremely doubtful. At the same time, it was also an important reason why he promised Cantory to come to the aid of the Gilded Kingdom team. It was because he knew that if what he feared became a reality, it would probably be a devastating disaster for the entire Anril.

The closer he got to Cage Island, the clearer the feeling became. When Lin Li reached the area surrounding Cage Island, he was 80% sure of his conjecture. However, that also put him in greater disbelief, and all the information in his head suddenly became messy and confusing because of that feeling.

“President Felic?” Seeing that Lin Li was hesitant about leading the others to provide aid, and had stopped to watch the people of the Gilded Kingdom struggle, Cantory got extremely anxious. However, he couldn’t complain or rush Lin Li for fear that he might provoke him, and cause him to give up.

Lin Li turned around to look at Cantory calmly with a deeper intent in his eyes. He slowly said, “Envoy Cantory, don’t worry, since we’ve already agreed, we won’t just sit back and leave you in the lurch. However, please also do not forget that we have agreed beforehand that the entire operation will be arranged by me.”

In fact, everyone knew that those things that Cantory had told the crowd before were definitely half-truths, and he had covered much of the truth. However, no one was sure what Cantory was hiding and which of the things he said were true.

However, Lin Li was now certain that if his hunch was right, the thing that Cantory was hiding was extremely frightening. He just couldn’t deduce why the Gilded Kingdom was hiding the truth and what exactly they were planning. If he wanted to know everything, he would perhaps only understand what was going on after he actually stepped onto Cage Island, and fought with the terrifying existence that had been sealed.

“Yes, yes, I was too anxious and eager. Feel free to tell me what arrangements you’d like to make. I definitely won’t interfere.” Cantory had his priorities right, and he knew that now was not the time to argue. If Lin Li was trying to stall for time, arguing would become a good excuse. He had no choice but to suppress his dissatisfaction, and look like he was ready to follow his orders.

“Alright, Cantory, please keep an eye on Cage Island, and inform me as soon as any sudden change in the battle situation occurs. I’m going to make arrangements for the aid now,” Lin Li said to Cantory as he turned around and walked away. Without waiting for Cantory’s response, he simply left and proceeded to greet the hidden powerhouses of the Breezy Plains before going to the back to discuss the specific details of the a.s.sistance.

At this moment, the powerhouses of the Breezy Plains who had witnessed the frightening battle on Cage Island each had a look of bewilderment. Elvis and the other six pseudo-Sanctuary powerhouses who saw the power of the real Sanctuary powerhouses could not hide the shock on their faces at all. They couldn’t imagine how they could support the people of the Gilded Kingdom next.

As for the other peak Legendary powerhouses, they were all even more terrified as they remained standing, dumbfounded and scared silly by the scene of that battle. In their opinion, a battle of such a level was not something they could intervene in. Given their pathetic strength, they would probably end up turning into ashes.

The terrifying might of true Sanctuary powerhouses engaged in battle was hard to resist for the hidden powerhouses of the Breezy Plains. When observing the battle, everyone felt oppressed by the might, and it was incomparably difficult to get closer to the battlefield. Even Elvis and other six pseudo-Sanctuary powerhouses who were about 600 meters behind Lin Li couldn’t move at all. The other peak Legendary-level powerhouses were even further away.

Although Cantory’s strength was also at the peak of the Legendary-realm, he managed to stand at the same distance away from the battlefield as Elvis and the others. Clearly, he was not called a genius for nothing. Although this did not mean that his strength could be compared to that of Elvis and other pseudo-Sanctuary powerhouses, he was definitely not too inferior to him. Perhaps it had already reached the extent where he might enter the Sanctuary-realm at any time.

When faced with such a situation on Cage Island, many had already intended to retreat. Standing on the edge of the battlefield, they realized that it was extremely difficult to take a step forward. How could they still support the people of the Gilded Kingdom? Did they really have to put their lives on the line? They were not that selfless, and even if someone was selfless enough to give their life to support the Gilded Kingdom, they had to pay the price too.

At this moment, Lin Li returned and took Elvis and others to a place far away from the battlefield after sending Cantory’s team away. Of course, although they had moved away, they only felt slightly better as they did not break free from the influence of that might, and were still in Cantory’s sight.

“Master Felic, can that thing under Cage Island destroy the Breezy Plains? Couldn’t it be that the people of the Gilded Kingdom are just trying to scare us?”

Clearly, the peak Legendary-level powerhouse who spoke up had already become frightened after seeing the battle. It was obvious what he meant. Even if the thing under Cage Island would not really destroy the Breezy Plains and rampage like Rodhart did, he did not want to interfere in this matter anymore.

The peak Legendary-level powerhouse’s thoughts resonated with a number of them. After all, at the level that they were currently at, their lifespans were generally thousands of years. Even if their forces suffered a huge loss, they would eventually have a chance to revive and rise again as long as they were still alive.

Hence, when they saw that someone had started, the people next to them immediately followed and chimed in, “Yeah, Master Felic, the people of the Gilded Kingdom are outsiders, after all. Their death or survival has nothing to do with us. Cantory must have hidden a lot from us, so why should we take such a huge risk to help them?”

“Yeah, that rascal won’t even show us the original map, he must have hidden a lot from us. This might just be a scheme of his to wipe out the forces of the Breezy Plains in one fell swoop,” said an old man who had a vivid imagination and was getting worried.

Seeing that they were getting more and more carried away and paranoid, Elvis couldn’t tolerate it any longer. He coughed a little, and got them to stop before saying, “Enough, everyone, stop making wild guesses. Let’s follow Master Felic’s arrangements.”

Elvis’s words immediately made everyone fall silent. They had already seen the power of a real Sanctuary powerhouse; hence, they were in awe of Lin Li. The latter might not have shown his full strength to them, but they could tell from the fact that he was standing at the edge of the battlefield relaxedly that he was a powerhouse others could not contend with.

Previously, the hidden powerhouses of the various forces who were either so-called pseudo-Sanctuary powerhouses or peak Legendary powerhouses were all unconvinced with Lin Li, the young Sanctuary powerhouse.

After all, such a young Sanctuary powerhouse was unprecedented in the history of Anril. In their opinion, Lin Li definitely had flaws since he could enter the Sanctuary-realm at such a young age. Even the pseudo-Sanctuary powerhouses thought that they would not be inferior to a young Sanctuary powerhouse with a weak foundation like Lin Li.

After all, they all knew that Lin Li was from the inconspicuous Guild of Magic of Jarrosus. Although his teacher Andoine’s ident.i.ty was extraordinary, his competency was not outstanding, and he even created the unpromising Thorn Domain for the sake of pharmaceutics. How could the student of an unreliable teacher have a good foundation?

However, now that Lin Li was at such a close distance, it showed the difference between Lin Li’s strength and theirs. Even though they hadn’t seen Lin Li attack, they were all very clear that situations where one had to face the mighty oppression of a Sanctuary powerhouse were the best way to tell whether a person’s foundation was solid. For example, Cantory was only at the peak of the Legendary-realm, but he could stand with Elvis and the others. That just meant that Cantory’s foundation was already near the Sanctuary-realm, and he could enter the Sanctuary-realm at any time.

Foundation was the most important. An acc.u.mulation of thousands of years might not mean a solid foundation. Otherwise, the old fogies of the Breezy Plains would have long since stepped into the Sanctuary-realm. Cantory was a proud disciple of the Illuminati, and under the meticulous teaching of the elder of the Illuminati, he wouldn’t go wrong; hence, his foundation was definitely not comparable to those of the old fogies of the Breezy Plains.

Of course, the hidden powerhouses of the Breezy Plains wouldn’t think that Lin Li’s true mentor on his path of magic was Geresco, the G.o.d of Mages who had left Anril. Geresco, or to be specific, Geresco’s incarnation, which Geresco had left in the Sky Castle, had guided Lin Li personally. Under such circ.u.mstances, it would be strange if there was an issue with Lin Li’s foundation.

A Sanctuary powerhouse with no problems with his foundation meant that he had almost no weaknesses, and that no one could try to challenge him. The people present were well aware of the distance between themselves and Lin Li. In this situation, who would dare to think of harming Lin Li? They had probably already seen Lin Li as someone who was on the same level as the Ashen Warlock.
