Chapter 795: Branches

“Hmph, had he not pushed the Tree of Eternity down…” Nefa cursed, and finally suppressed the anger within him. He then continued to introduce the topic to Lin Li. “Initially, although the two worlds overlapped, the huge repulsive power of the World Laws would gradually cause the overlapping phenomenon to be gradually restored over time, allowing the two worlds to return to their own positions. However, there is something at the bottom of this volcano that prevents the restoration of the two worlds and forcibly connects them together.”

“It can actually go against the World Laws?” Lin Li asked. He could not help but be surprised. The power of the World Laws was ma.s.sive to the extent of being beyond the control of the deities and G.o.ds. Although the power of the World Laws that Nefa mentioned was a little weaker than that of Anril, it was still not to be coveted by ordinary powerhouses of the Sanctuary-realm. However, that ma.s.sive and powerful force was actually suppressed by an object. Clearly, it was extremely powerful, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it an artifact.

“Of course, ordinary items can never be as powerful, and the reason that this item can be on par with the nomological power of two words is because it is a branch of the Tree of Eternity,” Nefa said with a look of resentment that he could not hide at all. Clearly, he hated the branch that made him suffer badly.

“The branch of the Tree of Eternity!” Upon hearing Nefa’s words, Lin Li couldn’t help but feel shocked as his heart raced rapidly.

In fact, when Lin Li heard Nefa say that it was Geresco who’d tricked him into going there, he already planned not to help him. Although Lin Li had yet to reach Geresco’s level, and did not know about the details, he also knew that Geresco had had his reasons for doing that to Nefa. Lin Li did not want to do anything out of line and cause things to blow out of proportion. After all, he was just an insignificant level-23 Legendary-mage.

However, after hearing Nefa say that the object was actually a branch of the Tree of Eternity, Lin Li had to admit that it was difficult for him to resist the temptation. To be honest, even if it was an artifact, it might not be too tempting for Lin Li, who had five pieces of the debris of the stars. However, the branch of the Tree of Eternity was different. If it were in the hands of others, the tree would probably just be the best material for making a staff, but it had a different significance to Lin Li.

When exploring the Sky Castle, Lin Li had got a Seed of Eternity in the Central Tower. Unfortunately, it had completely lost its aura of life, leaving behind only mana that was also declining. The ma.s.sive mana was not the reason for the high value of the Seed of Eternity. Only an alive Seed of Eternity would be considered an unparalleled treasure in Anril. It seemed that it would be impossible to revive the Seed of Eternity, but it was not really impossible for Lin Li.

Lin Li originally already had the debris of the stars Rebirth. However, he had never been able to revive the seed because of his lack of understanding of the mysteries of life. As long as he could get the leaves of a living Tree of Eternity, he would be able to let the seed revive. Hence, if the branch was alive, it would be extremely precious to Lin Li.

A dead Seed of Eternity would at most be equivalent to a huge mana source, and apart from providing mana, it would have no other uses. Besides, even the most common Legendary magical crystal would also slowly recover the consumed mana like when a mage was meditating. However, a dead Seed of Eternity would lose that ability, and its value would be lost once its mana was depleted.

However, once the Seed of Eternity was revived, its value would immediately increase thousands of times beyond anyone’s estimation. In order to make the Seed of Eternity grow into a real Tree of Eternity, a large amount of time would be required. However, as long as the Seed of Eternity was planted in Anril, it would definitely give the mages endless benefits as it grew and allow them to bask in the magic of the magic tides every day. The power of the magic tides would also become stronger, and the growth of the mages would be unlimited.

That was absolutely no exaggeration. Although there were various reasons for the High Elves’ ability to dominate Anril and establish such a prosperous dynasty, the existence of the Tree of Eternity was an important reason. Although the development of the Tower of Dusk was already going strong, Lin Li wasn’t satisfied just because of that, for one should never be satisfied with their status quo in order to survive in such a world which was about the survival of the fittest.

Lin Li couldn’t be bothered to dwell on the consequences that would ensue after he did Nefa that favor. Besides, if the Tree of Eternity were to grow in Anril again, there might be benefits to the balance of Anril too. Although Nefa was a threat, he was being restrained by Tutankhamun. Besides, Lin Li was confident that Nefa would never pose a threat to him once he obtained all the debris of the stars and entered the Sanctuary-realm.

“That branch is of no use to me. As long as you can put it away, I think the Immortal King’s robe should be enough to pay you for helping me. As long as you can help me with this matter, I can tell you some information that I know, and allow you to choose from the other relics of the Immortal King.” Nefa immediately offered more benefits after seeing that Lin Li was tempted in hopes that Lin Li would agree to his request.

“In that case, answer a question of mine first. If I help you, how do I leave this place? I’m not interested in staying here at all,” Lin Li said while suppressing the shock he felt. He frowned slightly while asking the question that seemed to be more important to him.

Actually, by asking that question, Lin Li agreed to the deal. Nefa suddenly felt overjoyed, but his expression was somewhat calm. He smiled, and said, “That’s simple. Although the Darkness Shrine has sealed this crack, I just have to release the suppression on the volcano a little and make the power erupt so as to let the crack open for a while. You don’t have to worry about leaving this place.”

d.a.m.n it, so this guy was the one stirring trouble! Lin Li thought. He finally figured out everything all of a sudden, and he reckoned that the so-called catastrophe that the Darkness Shrine was fearing was all because of the tricks that Nefa was playing. The changes that happened this time and the destruction of the Darkness Shrine previously were all because Nefa had moved his foot a little. The Darkness Shrine was really unlucky.

Moreover, Lin Li also thought about the conversation that the two brothers Willen and Rodhart had had with Nefa through the crack. The Darkness Shrine met with the disaster shortly after the two of them left, and Lin Li reckoned that it might be one of the deals that the brothers struck with Nefa. After all, the Darkness Shrine then was already strong enough to pose a threat to the Brilliance Shrine even without High Priest Rogge. After such a blow, the Darkness Shrine also lost the qualification to compete with the Brilliance Shrine, even though it was not completely destroyed. To a certain extent, it was also a big benefit to the Brilliance Shrine.

However, Lin Li was not a member of the Darkness Shrine, after all; hence, he only felt a little sympathetic for them. His safety should be the thing that he was most concerned about now. After a moment of silence, he said, “I can agree to your request, but before that, I still need you to make an oath. I don’t want to worry about guarding against your attacks again after solving this difficult problem. So, I want you to swear with your soul that you’ll never do anything to hurt me. Of course, I will make the same promise.”

Be it the Immortal King’s robe or the branch of the Tree of Eternity, they would all be meaningless to a dead person. Lin Li was very clear that with his current strength, it would still be difficult to fight against a powerhouse on Nefa’s level. Apart from the fact that he might not know what he would experience there, he might come back half-alive, and it would be even more impossible to guard against Nefa’s sneak attacks.

The validity of a verbal promise would depend on the promiser. It was undeniable that in this world, there were also those who were people of their word, but a descendant of the Dragon of Destruction who had the Laws of destruction and evilness would never be one of them. Hence, no matter what Nefa said, Lin Li still believed that no one would dare to violate an oath made on one’s soul.

“Well…” Nefa hesitated after hearing Lin Li’s request, and shook his head. “No one knows what will happen if we meet again in the future. Hence, I can’t make a Soul Oath hastily. Why don’t we swear on this world that I won’t do anything to hurt you?”

After all, Nefa was a powerhouse of the same level as Tutankhamun, and he even intended to become the new Dragon of Destruction. Hence, Lin Li was indeed determined to have one less enemy. However, Nefa’s refusal did not make Lin Li feel too disappointed. While it was good to have one less enemy, there was nothing formidable about Nefa, and even if he were to run into Nefa again, the latter might just be the one getting hurt. Hence, it was fine for Lin Li to have one more enemy like him too.
